Background
The STORMS project is an expansion and extension of an earlier DOE-funded research project (2021-2024) titled “PV Reliability at Northern Latitudes,” which focused on improving system performance in wintry climates by developing and validating advanced snow-shedding strategies. Over the course of that investigation, Sandia became increasingly aware of the fact that optimizing PV systems for their operating environments is a way to decrease costs and increase system availability. STORMS has also taken that concept from field validation of experimental designs to national-level risk analysis and availability studies.
